Corey J. Mehaffy, CEO

Corey J. Mehaffy founded C. J. Mehaffy, LLC; as an economic development company to advise entrepreneurs, communities and expanding businesses in an effort to encourage and facilitate new business investment. Mr. Mehaffy manages a current project portfolio in excess of 70 domestic and international projects bringing his extensive experience with Federal, State and Local incentive programs as well as economic development financing tools to bear for his clients.

Mr. Mehaffy joined the staff of Moberly Area Economic Development Corporation (hereinafter “MAEDC”) as the president of the organization in February of 2008.  As president, Mehaffy is responsible for all economic development efforts including business retention and expansion; and business attraction and entrepreneurship.  From its inception in 1988 MAEDC has handled the economic development function for the City of Moberly and Randolph County.  In 2009, Mehaffy led an effort to establish a three year partnership with Chariton County. In 2011 the organization expanded to add Cooper and Monroe Counties; and in 2013 Howard County joined the partnership with MAEDC functioning as the lead economic development agency for all counties.

Mehaffy is also a co-founder of Grow Mid-Missouri (hereinafter “GMM”); an entrepreneurial development program serving 17 counties in northeast Missouri, designed to assist entrepreneurs in reaching their goals. The GMM program provides online resources, coaching and mentoring; and an investor network to support entrepreneurs in their efforts to bring products from the idea stage to market. Mehaffy also participated as a contributing author for The Organic Entrepreneur Economy which serves as a guide for local government and civic leaders who are trying to make sense of entrepreneurship and how it can be organically rooted in their communities to accelerate business creation and grow the economy.

In January of 2014, Mehaffy purchased Growth Services Group, a workforce intelligence research and consulting firm. GSG provides products and services to business, industry and government. GSG products and services include surveys, training, assessments and research for organizational effectiveness and growth. GSG works closely with economic development organizations and their partners in support of community and regional planning for workforce and economic development programs. Across these markets, GSG supports its customers by providing unique solutions through the use of our proprietary processes.

Prior to joining MAEDC, Mehaffy served for five years as the Chief Operating Officer of Central Christian College of the Bible (hereinafter “CCCB”) and one year as the COO of L&J Development, Inc., both of Moberly. Mehaffy came to CCCB after serving as the Vice President of Operations for Pike Mechanical, Inc. and as the Director of Operations and Business Development for Arona Corporation, both of Des Moines, Iowa. Mehaffy has held several senior management positions in a variety of industries from finance to retail while owning several businesses.

Mehaffy spent his formative years in Quincy, Illinois where he graduated from Quincy Senior High School. Following high school Mehaffy attended CCCB in Moberly before transferring to AIB College of Business and completing his Bachelor’s Degree from William Woods University. Mehaffy has completed several professional development programs including Experience in Community Enterprise and Leadership Development, IEDC and University of Northern Iowa Heartland Economic Development Course, Association of Business Administrators of Christian Colleges Certification Program, and McConkey-Johnson International Fundamentals of Development and Performance Measurements for Effective Management of Non-Profit Organizations from Harvard University. In the fall of 2010, Mehaffy graduated from the International Economic Development Council and the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute making him eligible to sit for the exam to gain designation as a Certified Economic Developer.

Mehaffy has served as a board member of several civic and charitable organizations including the Central Christian College of the Bible, Northeast Missouri Workforce Investment Board, Moberly Regional Medical Center, Moberly Rotary Club, City of Moberly Tourism Advisory Council, Katharos Ministries, Northeast Evangelism, and the Randolph Area YMCA where he was recognized as the 2008 Board Volunteer of the Year. Mehaffy is also a member of the American Chamber of Commerce China, Midwest-US China Association and the National Rural Economic Developer’s Association. Mehaffy and his wife Priscilla have been married for over 25 years and have a son named Jordan.

Edmund A. “Ed” Martin, CEcD, CSE

Mr. Martin is a Certified Economic Developer with over 35 years’ experience in management, research and economic development. Ed is the founder of Growth Services Group and has been a consultant since 1991 working with communities, businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Ed has conducted numerous workforce studies for community and regional economic development organizations in Missouri.

Prior to establishing GSG, Ed served as Director of the Small and Existing Business Section with the Missouri Department of Economic Development and was the Manager for the National Marketing Section, responsible for recruiting industry to Missouri. Ed has assisted or participated in site evaluations, economic and market analyses, economic development strategies, target industry studies, public-private partnerships and public participation and group facilitation. Along with public sector experience, Ed held various management positions with a major U.S. retailer in credit, merchandising and operations including HR responsibilities.

During his civilian work career, Ed participated actively in the U.S. Army Reserve. Ed attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and taught the Command and General Staff Course, which prepares Army Reserve and National Guard Officers for more responsible career positions.

Ed is a member of several professional and civic organizations including the Missouri Economic Development Council, the Central Missouri Chapter of American Society for Training and Development, the Human Resource Association of Central Missouri, the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce and the Breakfast Rotary Club. Ed also attends numerous local and national seminars and workshops to keep abreast of current practices, techniques and products in his work.

David Forck, Sr. Programmer Research Analyst

David is a Programmer currently pursuing his B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in Math. David designs, implements, and maintains Microsoft SQL Server databases and Microsoft SQL Server Reports while maintaining the servers they are hosted on. David also assists in primary and secondary research.

David designed and implemented a web application for Employee Satisfaction Survey which replaced the old Phone Survey System and increased Efficiency by 480% and greatly reduced costs. David designed and implemented web application for Quality of Labor Survey which improved turnaround time from 3 weeks to 1 week. David leveraged Data to produce numerous metrics. Danny Lobina, MBA

Danny Lobina has been contracted as a business advisor.  He has over 18 years of business experience. Danny holds a Bachelor of Science in Management and a Master of Business Administration. He specializes in commercial lending to business expansion, economic development, and community development projects. He also works with clients to decrease expenses and increase profitability through cash flow management solutions. He has been highly successful in identifying business needs through careful operational and financial analysis of clients businesses. As the former Regional Director for the Missouri Small Business & Technology Development Center and Co-Founder of Grow Mid-Missouri he worked with entrepreneurs to develop a higher level of business skill sets and to develop business plans and financial projections to seek traditional and non-traditional funding. Danny has taken a special interest in Economic Development and works closely with local organizations to improve the financial impact and job creation of Northeast and Central Missouri. His efforts in economic development have led to the start-up of over 25 new local businesses and the procurement of over $7,500,000 in funding for those clients. Danny recently co-authored a book, “The Organic Entrepreneur Economy,” with several other experts outlining how to develop and sustain a community entrepreneurship program in a local economy.

Randal founded his own marketing business in Philadelphia in the early 1990s and later merged with a Chicago-based firm to forge Ergo Creative. Randal also has unique technical abilities in the areas of web development, video production, internet savvy, and programming. The convergence of business, social experience, and technical skills that Randal brings is truly unique. Randal has created new brands and breathed new life into existing ones. Some notable engagements are: US Cellular, AccuWeather, Moberly Economic Development Corporation, Franciscan Health Systems, Community Health Systems, Greenwich Leadership Forum, and Sam’s Health Mart.

In addition to marketing, Randal is now leading culture change within corporations and organizations. Annie joined MOREnet, a business unit of the University of Missouri, as their Marketing and Business Development Analyst in July of 2012 and this fall, she began sharing her knowledge with students as an adjunct instructor for the MU Crosby MBA Program. A large part of her responsibility involves working with innovation teams to research and develop new technology services and business projects as well as analyzing business data to drive customer satisfaction and new product sales. Prior to MOREnet, Annie worked as a Market Research Analyst at Shelter Insurance and as an Economist for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Jordan’s background in mathematics and statistics fits well with GSG’s goal of providing data analysis used by economic developers, business leaders, and other local stakeholders for decision making. The GSG project team provides Labor Market research specific to Labor Supply, Labor Demand and Labor Commuting Certifications as well as Retail Market Research and Feasibility Studies.

Jordan is a graduate of Moberly High School and is currently attending Moberly Area Community College studying Business Management. Jordan has worked as a Golf Operations Associate at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly, MO since 2012. In his free time, Jordan is an avid golfer and enjoys playing video game as well as playing and coaching soccer. Jordan joined the GSG team in April of 2015.
